VENUE SPOTLIGHT: The Louisiana

By Resonate | November 5, 2021

Situated on Spike Island, The Louisiana books and promotes hundreds of indie rock and alternative bands every year. From local and unsigned acts to the crème de la crème of the country’s rising talent, names such as The National, Florence and the Machine and Scissor Sisters have all graced The Louisiana’s stage, making it a true Bristol institution and a springboard for rising stars. The venue was born at a time when The Fleece was out of action due to a fire in 1996. The Louisiana rose from the ashes, destined to ignite the careers of some of Britain’s finest rock ‘n’ roll acts of the last 20 years. It’s an intimate venue at only 140 capacity – there are few places you feel this close to the artists. The uniqueness of its interior comes from the building’s history as a seafarer’s hotel. Although the halls are no longer filled with the rowdy antics of travelling seamen, it is no doubt worth a trip down if you’re a fan of alternative music.
