Tanhai Collective

Tanhai Collective are a new London sextet of young creatives that have shaken off the traditional stereotypes of jazz and spun them on their head. Their latest single, Grooves I, is a far cry from the world of restaurant/elevator jazz, taking the listener on a modern exploration of restless and untamed playing from which the destination is ultimately a mystery. A rustic personality encapsulates this band, which is indicative of everything that makes UK underground music so untapped and fresh. You could easily be mistaken into thinking their sound comes from a full orchestra. Arguments between the trombone and saxophone are resolved in harmonious telepathy across the track, and the chemistry that these young players have is clear to see. After playing at Cross the Tracks in Brixton this summer, as well as receiving a passionate following by BBC 6 Music legend Gilles Peterson, the future is bright for Tanhai Collective.
