SKRILLEX – ‘HIT ME WHERE IT HURTS X’ EP REVIEW

By Resonate | March 4, 2026

Skrillex’s newest EP is an ode to electronic music. The compact track list on hit me where it hurts x explores the DJ’s traditional industrial dubstep sound, while delving into the club scene with techno-house structures, showcasing the expansion of the rave scene that music culture has seen in 2025.

The artistic blend of these two ingredients results in a project that is both nostalgic and exciting for listeners, with Skrillex presenting this EP as an experimental work while paying homage to his roots and fans. Long-time listeners will recognise the DJ’s traditional musical style, while new listeners will be drawn to the EP’s modern characterisation of pulsating drumlines that run rapidly throughout.

The opening track fuze immediately throws listeners back to 2010; full of sharp percussion, warped vocals and an intensity that can be found in his debut album Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites

Each track fades into the next, with visions of the music belonging to a crowd of beat-driven ravers, riding the texture and energy Skrillex creates.

In just a five-track runtime, hit me where it hurts x presents itself as playful, challenging, innovative and an insight into the master that is Skrillex’s mind. The EP is Skrillex at his most confident, and it certainly shows in the range and talent on display in this latest creation.
