Born in London, raised in Bristol, Retropxssy has all the characteristics of a well established musical act, despite only kickstarting the project last year. Bold, innovative and oozing genuinity, she’s managed to quickly obtain a unique identity within her music that offers a charismatic yet edgy take on contemporary hip hop. With influence from Bristol’s nightlife and a lyrical rawness that can only be owed to a childhood of musical nourishment, she recalls The Prodigy’s 2009 Glastonbury set as a defining moment in her life. Heading straight for the mosh pit (as she still does now), Retropxssy has punk spirit running through her veins whilst also delivering self-assured, witty rap. Latest release Sleepyhead see’s the 24-year-old speed things up with a UKG twist behind her usual raspy vocals, reminding us she’s certainly no one-trick pony. Not one to shy away from experimentation and collaboration, Retropxssy’s aura is an intriguing one for sure. Wherever her musical endeavours head next, we know for sure that we’ll be tagging along!
