LoHZ Collective (pronounced ‘low-hertz’) is a multi-genre EDM collective based in Bristol, with members in Bournemouth and Wales.

Ruben Solomons founded the LoHz collective upon starting university at BIMM in 2025 – funnily enough, the collective was initially just meant to be a studio meet-up where you could meet like-minded people and just mess about making some tracks. Then it really took off; as the community tightened their bond, they began hosting events at venues across the city. They launched their first event as a house party, where attendance became law with easily over 100 people having a great night in a tiny house (I don’t know how it didn’t get shut down). We had the opportunity to chat to Ruben at one of their recent takeovers at The Crown.

It’s undeniable that, due to EDM’s popularity in Bristol, competing events can be really challenging because of the sheer number of shows. Ruben argues that “what makes us unique is the fact we’re multi-genre.” You never fully know what to expect. You could go to one of their events for garage, they’ll deliver that for you. But also offer sets with other genres that complement each other, with changing tempos, different energies, and levels.

As a collective, LOHZ stand out. There’s a huge focus on both community events and high-profile events with extensive outreach. They use a strategic mindset when planning events, juggling their duty to improve their community and expand their reach and audience. While avoiding prioritising profits over the community, LoHZ are conscious money is a factor that must be considered to maintain hosting such parties. Ruben says, “No matter how big we get, I never want to stop doing community events. I remember being in a position with no connections and feeling as though I had no opportunities, which is why I made LoHZ.”

They want to be surrounded by ambition and LoHZ reflect that mentality in every member of the collective.  The three things they look for in DJs are, first, ambition, initiative and skill. If you’re interested in being a member, their expectation is that you’re passionate about it enough to reach out to them. Despite being a majority male collective, they don’t give a fuck about gender, sexuality, or race. Ruben says, “We’re all about inclusion, as I said, that’s why I started LOHZ. Right now, our collective is just our immediate circle of friends, but we welcome anyone to reach out and see what happens.”
