LIVE REVIEW: Wolf Alice

You might be getting bored of hearing about London overachievers Wolf Alice. The indie-rock band seems to be everywhere, winning everything. The hipster inside me would love to slag them off and say, “oh, Wolf Alice, yeah I liked them back in 2014. Don’t listen to them much anymore,” but to do so would be very disingenuous. There is a good reason for their success and ever-growing trophy cabinet.

When they took to Bristol O2 Academy the gig was a true spectacle. The band played 18 songs with very little time between each, wasting no time chatting shit to the audience which was quite refreshing. Many lead singers get lost in their egos and let their monologues drone on for hours – no such behaviour from Ellie Roswell. I appreciated that they made time to play the songs!

Every single person entering  the venue must have had one thing on their mind: Rowsell’s superhuman vocal range. Her ability to hold any note for seemingly any amount of time is a testament not only to her vocal chords but also her lung capacity. She’s a true freak of nature with the songs from their latest album Blue Weekend performed to their fullest.

So whilst it may be getting quite tiresome seeing Rowsell and co hoovering up Brit Awards and Mercury Prizes like they’re going out of style, their live show is the perfect place to find out exactly why they’re Britain’s favourite indie band.
