Live Review: Melin Melyn

The sold-out homecoming gig for Cardiff-based band Melin Melyn was one of great fun. The bilingual band that makes psychedelic pop knows a thing or two about how to put on a good gig. The two dancers on stage would dress related to the folky pop songs and a wizard-like man called Dr Sausage stood on the venue balcony having a back and forth with frontman Gruff Glyn.

It was evident that seeing this band would be a kitsch-filled entertaining night. The band know how to have fun, Among all their own songs they also did an entertaining cover of Rhinestone Cowboy which caused a mass singalong.

Their songs are an accessible way into the Welsh language that keeps the attention of non-Welsh speakers, such as myself. Gruff would speak between songs in both English and Welsh making the night an inclusive one. They are a very fun band and if you get the chance to see them I highly recommend it.
