Live Review: Heavy Lungs

The homecoming gig for the Bristol-based punk band Heavy Lungs was a real knees-up. Frontman Danny Nedelko was the ringleader of the night, commanding the stage with the kind of attitude we’ve come to expect from the enigmatic band leader. The night was full of songs off their debut album All Gas No Brakes.

It was a very high-energy night, with people’s bodies and heads moving with every heavyweight noise the band made. About halfway through the gig, the drummer came to the front of the stage and sang the chorus of Milkshake by Kelis while the rest of the band around him jammed. As the night went on, you could feel the intensity rise as the moshing began to start, which peaked when they performed their big song (A Bit of a) Birthday

They were a dazzling and fun live band, as were their support band Gallus. In the process, they confirmed they are much more than the band with the bloke from the IDLES song.
