Industry Insights: What’s New with HUBB Records?

HUBB records always have their fingers on the pulse. This independent Bristol label is known for its eclectic roster of local up and comers. They have previously released music from acts such as Try Me, Kite Thief and Krooked Tongue. They’ve recently signed 10 new artists to be featured on their latest compilation, HUBB Records Volume 4. Here’s our rundown of what to expect. Avid Resonate readers may even notice a familiar face or two in the mix…

El Knight

El Knight is on a mission to bring the trip-hop sound back to Bristol’s front and centre. Their music is an intimate throwback to the likes of Portishead and Massive Attack. El’s 2020 album I Can See the Sun is Burning Out fuses R&B and downtempo beats. Fully self-produced El infuses magic in their music, expect a dreamy cut from her in HUBB Records Volume 4.

G U Y

Here’s one for the hip-hop fans; G U Y takes inspiration from Loyle Carner, Slowthai and Dave to devise his own blend of UK hip-hop and RnB, his debut album Lift Off released in late 2020 is a certified no skip album. His most commercially successful song yet Plans featured on the Ujima radio’s monthly charts at number 3. Make sure you strap in because Lift Off is only the beginning.

Bible Club

Combining noisy aggressive riffs with ambient soundscapes, Bible Club radiate attitude. Using spoken word they provide a poetic take on the Idles formula, whilst interlacing a combination of wider influences. Bible Club are at their best in a live setting creating spiritual experience you don’t want to miss. These guys are set to have some supernatural releases that will turn us all into devout believers.

The New Cut

Enter Resonate cover stars, The New Cut. This alt rock 4 piece have spent the past year making their mark on the Bristol gig circuit. Their charmingly catchy sound has won them the hearts of the city, check out their infectious debut The Family Business if you’ve been living under a rock and somehow haven’t heard it yet.

Methods

Methods are scratching that itch for heavy riffs on HUBB Records  Volume 4. This powerhouse duo know how to make a lot of noise with less people. Combining metal drums with bluesy guitars it would be hard not to draw comparisons to Royal Blood. Much like Royal Blood they know how to get a room moving, their BIMM live performance had Thekla rocking out from front to back.

Euan Morris

Euan Morris is bringing his warm pop sounds to Bristol. Following in the footsteps of artists like Lewis Capaldi, he has used TikTok to promote his music far and wide. His masterful songwriting lets his music merge melancholic and emotional sounds whilst still feeling upbeat. He quotes Sam Fender as a big inspiration so we are curious to see what’s next for Euan.

Ellz

Next up is alternative pop artist Ellz. Her introspective writing is uplifting and positive to combat the woes of life in 2022. She takes inspiration from the likes of Raye, Mabel and Bryn. Delivering a powerful and smooth vocal that we’re bound to hear in the charts soon.

Rassix ft. Immy Odon

EDM producer and DJ, Rassix is here to make a splash in the dance music scene. His musical journey began in his bedroom, in a small town north of Copenhagen. He now finds himself in our city of Bristol where he has honed his craft and perfected his live performance at a variety of clubs. In his latest release he has teamed up with Immy Odon whose rich vocals complement his ethereal productions perfectly.

Eve Appleton

Born and raised in Dorset, Eve is now a thriving member of Bristol’s folk scene. Her poetic song writing is inspired by old folk traditions, stories and her experiences growing up in a British seaside town. Drawing on romantic themes of water and nature, her lyrics are what makes Eve’s music so special.

Freddie Lewis

Self-proclaimed poet and transgender pop star Freddie Lewis’ dreamy idyllic music is a joy to listen to. His thought provoking and blissful melodies leave a wondrous curiosity for the listener. He recently released a beautiful self-published book of poetry titled On A Lilac Underpass and continues to share his poetry online.
