GUPI

By Resonate | July 9, 2021

The tail end of the 2010s saw a rise in a new fresh-sounding pop. Heavily distorted bass, wonderfully colourful sounds and glitchy off-kilter melodies. Whether you call it hyperpop, PC Music or glitchcore, this sound is here to stay. One producer that you need not sleep on is Gupi, his latest release what’s known now embodies all the usual elements of hyperpop. If you’re somehow unaware of this phenomenon imagine Y2K pop aesthetics on shed loads of uppers with an aggressive unwillingness to hold back on the bass. what’s known now also has a drum beat with an undeniable resemblance to the happy hardcore classics of the early 90s. If I listen to this song one more time I will be obliged to pull out my shiniest metallic puffer and make some shapes.
