Fuck The Charts: Protest The Hero

By Dylan Shortridge | August 4, 2020

Destroying the emo scene with breakdowns and hair as long as their guitar solos are prog-metal gods, Protest The Hero. Starting strongly, their first album Kezia ignited a fire in the world of metal that doesn’t take itself too seriously with Ollie Sykes’ poses and apathetic whines very much key to the act. With six albums under their belt, the Canadian chuggers are back with their new album Palimpsest and everything to prove. The new single, The Canary throws us into a nostalgic portal while Rody Walker’s theatrical vocals climb impossible scales, to abrasive drumbeats and entrancing arpeggios. It sounds familiar but adds a modern edge that shows us why this band won’t be forgotten.
