The pleasures of post-rock can put the most volatile of listeners to a complete standstill. No matter how naive you are to the genre, it’s pretty incredible to think that Darkfield is made up of just a singular being – Joey Westerlund. With his 2021 EP, History Reimagined, it’s just one ongoing feat of the imagination where finely tuned vibrations from musical paraphernalia leave you in wonder at how it’s been achieved. When you enter the Darkfield cinema, you are front and centre; watching what seems to feel like a band of brothers bounce their brilliance off one another. If the mind of Joey Westerlund continues to make music at this standard in years to come, then the front row seats may soon be preoccupied.
