Artist Interview: GLOWE
By Resonate | May 4, 2022Words by Eloise Kirton
Triple threat Georgia Lowe aka Glowe, is a singer/songwriter/actor from London. She’s back with Emotional a new single from her forthcoming EP Change of Scene. Emotional is a funky up-tempo pop ballad addressing the thrills of life’s highs and lows, as well as the strains of overthinking. Playful harmonies and melodious, bright lyrics throughout the song make the single one of Georgia’s best crafted releases yet. Alongside Glowe, her producer and self-confessed ‘Bestie’ Dan D’lion and Joseph Wander helped create the track.
Glowe debuted her music in 2019 and has since gotten widespread support from BBC Radio, Wonderland, Apple Music, and Spotify editorial playlists for each new song she has published, including the New Music Friday playlist. Over the previous few years, Spotify has also featured her on the covers of the playlists New Pop UK and New Pop Revolution multiple times.
Georgia released Daughter in 2020, her first EP consisting of 6 tracks, all of which received great critical review. ‘Better Than You Do’, one of the songs on the EP managed to receive over 300,000 streams on Spotify, which is an amazing achievement for a new artist releasing their debut EP.
Throughout the midst of the COVID-19 lockdown, we didn’t see Glowe releasing any new music, but after a break she has said that “After some time away to work on crafting my sound, a new and improved Glowe is back.” Judging from how successful Emotional has been so far, there is no doubt that after lockdown, Georgia is back with her best music yet.
I had the chance to speak with Glowe recently for the first time since 2020, when she had just released her single Overwhelmed during the first lockdown, and it was great to be able to grasp an idea of how she is feeling about her new music release and talk about what exciting things she has lined up for 2022.
You are back with new music in 2022 and already your new single emotional has received such a positive response. How does it feel to be back releasing music?
G: AMAZING!! I’m so glad I waited until I felt ready to come back. 2021 was so uninspiring and flat for me. Everyone was desperately trying to work things out around covid, I knew waiting till I was feeling positive was the right choice. I took summer 2021 to work with my producer and bestie Dan D’Lion, to craft out the sound of my EP and I’m so glad I invested that time. I feel better than ever, and I hope it’s translating in the music
Everyone needs a break, what was the process behind creating your new single, Emotional?
G: I wanted to make light of how much of an overthinker I am. I wrote it on zoom initially with my friends Jenifer Stewart and Joseph Wander in winter last year. We all agreed that the silly things we worry about always feel so intense at the time but usually turn out ok. By turning my worries into a catchy, fun song, it made me realise that it’s all gonna be ok in the end, even if it’s not right now.
I also saw that you received a feature on BBC Radio 1 Introducing from Gemma Bradley, that is so exciting, where were you when you heard about it and how did it feel to be featured on the UKs biggest radio show?
G: I was at the pub with my best friends!!!! I knew it was gonna be played but my Nan texted me at around midnight saying she had been waiting up for it, and to tune in. So iconic from her. Enjoying that moment with my nearest and dearest is something I will never forget. I’ve been dreaming of it for years.
Apart from the new single, have you been working on any new projects/ potential debut albums?
G: I’ve got an EP coming this summer!! It’s called ‘Change of Scene.’ This title felt so appropriate as that’s exactly what I needed from 2022. Lots of change.
What can we expect from you in 2022, have you got any upcoming live shows or festivals?
G: I’m heading to LA and Miami at the beginning of April to write some new stuff and make memories. When I’m back, you can expect new songs, festivals, the EP and more!!
Catching up with Glowe after the lockdown gave me a feeling of how difficult it has been for musicians in recent years, but also how creative minds can leverage their suffering and desire for change to create uplifting music that everyone can relate to. We can’t wait to hear Georgia’s new EP Change of Scene this summer and if anyone is in London be sure to attend her Glowe in the Park show in Queens park.
